Only Watch Auction 2011

As someone who has seen and tried on watches retailing up to $500,000, it takes something out of the ordinary to tickle my fancy. Every two years an auction consisting of one-of-a-kind timepieces is held in Monaco to benefit Muscular Dystrophy.  In 2009, when the auction first caught my eye, companies such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, TAG Heuer, and 32 other watch brands raised €2,285,500 for this cause. Included in this auction was the first of the 150 TAG Heuer Monaco V4's, selling for €55,000, and the amazing Patek Philippe Celestial Ref. 5106 selling for an astounding €535,000. While some companies reinterpret an existing item, most use the 2 years between auctions to work hard in making impressive new items, proving how socially responsible the watch industry can be.
This year, the 4th bi-annual auction will take place on September 23rd in Monaco, with an increased brand presence, now standing at 40 participants. These brands have not seized to amaze, in making some of the most unique pieces yet. With the industry as strong as ever, this auction is slated to shatter previous records. Although I cannot participate in this auction, I will be keeping a close eye in watching history being made.
